Emma Gutierrez,70, will be laid to rest on Wednesday, August 25, 2021. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church with Father Joseph Kurumbel officiating. Graveside services will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home. A Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at Tankersley Funeral Home (807 Columbia) in Stamford, TX.

Emma Gonzales Gutierrez was born July 23, 1951, in Uvalde, TX to Atilano and Consuelo Gonzales.

Emma moved from Uvalde to Stamford, TX in 1970, and soon met a young man named Juan Gutierrez. Emma and Juan only knew each other for about two weeks when they were married on October 1, 1971, in Knox City, TX creating a union lasting 50 years. Juan would often refer to Emma as, “My Beautiful Wife”.

Emma was very family oriented, spending her time nurturing and cooking for her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and was lovingly known as “Welita” by her grandchildren. Emma cherished spending most of her time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Emma enjoyed paying bingo, scratching lottery tickets, listening to music and playing games on her iPad.  Emma’s efforts as a gardener were rewarding to her as she reaped the harvest from her garden and flowers. She was a member of the Catholic church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Juan Bautista Gutierrez, son. Juan Luis, her father, Atilano Gonzales, her mother Consuelo Vasquez Gonzales and significant other Lorenzo Contreras, brothers, Atilano Gonzales, III, Raul Aviles, and Jessie Gonzales, sisters, Maria Gonzales, and Rosa Flores.

Survivors include her beautiful children: daughter and son-in-law Maria and Narsiso Alamilla of Abilene, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Eva and Felix Martinez of Abilene, TX; daughter, Esmerelda Hampton of Abilene, TX; daughter and son-in-law. Juanita and Brody Andrews of Potosi, TX; son, Juan Gutierrez, Jr., and wife Crystal of Abilene, TX; 19 grandchildren: Brianna Greer and husband John, Katalina Kuliga and husband Christian, David Gutierrez and wife Diamond, Albaro Baez, III, and Mekayella Baez all of Abilene, TX, Johvani Alamilla of Oklahoma City, OK, Emmalynn Gutierrez and significant other Mark Hernandez, Janet Martinez and significant other Michael Olvera, Brian Hollingsworth, Jesse Hollingsworth, Dominick Gutierrez, Mariah Martinez, Jasmine Gutierrez, Ariella Estrella Gutierrez, Joe Michael Gutierrez, Juan Gutierrez, III, Mason Gutierrez, all of Abilene, TX, Ryan Ruiz and Levi Ruiz both from Potosi, TX; 8 great grandchildren; sister, Beatrice Gonzales of Altus, OK, sister and brother-in-law, Paula and Ray Cruz of Stamford, TX, sister, Juanita Edmonds of Wyoming, sister and brother-in-law, Paulina and Felix Mireles of Uvalde, TX, sister, Genoveva Morales of Uvalde, TX; brother and sister-in-law Rafael and Lisa Gonzales of Plainview, TX, brother, Daniel Aviles of Breckenridge, TX, brother and sister-in-law, Anufo and Maria Gonzales of Uvalde, TX  and numerous other relatives and friends.
