Beverly Burkman, a woman whose life was defined by her unwavering love for people was granted her wish to go meet Jesus and be reunited with her parents on Saturday, May 10, 2025. She touched countless lives with her warmth, kindness, genuine spirit, bright smile and happy sense of humor. She was 73 years old.
Beverly Joyce was born to Chester and Charline (Scott) Pew in Kansas City, KS on December 23, 1951. Beverly received her formal education in Kansas City before enrolling in college at Emporia State University earning a Bachelor of Science Degree. She later moved to Lubbock, TX to continue her studies, working toward a master’s degree in physics. In 1976 Beverly moved to Stamford, TX where she met the love of her life Mr. Monroe Burkman. On July 30, 1977, Beverly and Monroe were united in marriage, a union celebrating 47 years of marriage. Beverly was employed by the Stamford School district until she retired.
Beverly was a beacon of light in the lives of those around her. Her ability to connect with people on a deep level was unparalleled, and she had a gift for making everyone feel seen and valued. Whether it was through her tireless volunteer work, her infectious laughter, or her simple acts of kindness, she always found ways to brighten the lives of others. Beverly worked countless hours at the Stamford Food Bank, was a member of the Bethel WELCA, Tuesday quilters group, and served in various capacities at Bethel Lutheran Church including playing her flute.
She will be deeply missed by her family, including her husband, Monroe Burkman of Stamford, TX who was the center of her world; 2 sisters: Marilyn Calovich (Steve) of Merriam, KS and Judy Seeger (Tim) of Lenexa, KS; a nephew, Jared Seeger of Lenexa, KS; 3 brothers-in-law: Stanley Burkman (Linda) of Bowie, TX, Royce Burkman (Carolyn) of Hubbard Creek, TX, and Rodney Burkman (Tamara) of Cisco, TX; 1 sister-in-law, Carlene Black (John) of Spring, TX. She will also be fondly remembered by her many friends, extended family, and neighbors, including her special aunt, Mary Lou Crawford.
A celebration of Beverly’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. Bethel Lutheran Church in the Ericksdahl Community with the Rev. Richard Strait officiating. Burial will follow at the Phantom Hill Cemetery in Jones County under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home of Stamford, TX.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stamford Food Bank in Beverly’s memory.
