John Tom “Tommy” Lindsey left this world on Saturday, December 25, 2021, at the age of 87. He is celebrating Christmas in Heaven with his Savior Jesus, his beloved wife Helen, and numerous other relatives.
He was born in Jones County, TX on July 17, 1934, to Marvin Quint and Mamie (Smith) Lindsey. Tommy grew up in Avoca and graduated from Avoca High School in 1952. Tommy pursued a career in agriculture as his life profession, farming in the Avoca community. On June 19, 1954, Tommy wed Helen Bates in Stamford, TX. Tommy and Helen were the proud parents of four children: Dana, Christy, Suzzy, and Quint. Tommy and Helen were together for almost 51 years before her passing on May 12, 2005.
Tommy devoted his life to taking care of his family. He was a loving dad, grandad, and a wonderful friend. He was a devout sports (basketball) fan following the Avoca Mustangs, Lueders-Avoca Raiders, and the Hardin Simmons University men’s and women’s teams. Tommy and Helen would often travel to Austin to watch the State Basketball Tournament. Tommy was a member of the Masonic Lodge, and the Avoca Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. Tommy and Helen enjoyed traveling, attending Bluegrass Festivals, and playing dominoes.
He is preceded in death by his parents Marvin and Mamie Lindsey, wife Helen, brother Jack Lindsey, five sisters: Adell Jones, Betty Petty, Dixie Watts, Delores Paige and Nellie Joyce Lindsey, and a granddaughter Kyler Hayle Eason.
He is survived by 3 daughters and sons-in-law: Dana and John Decker of Abilene, TX, Christy and Kenny Eason of Holiday, TX, Suzzy and Steve Crowell of Italy, TX; a son Quint Lindsey of Albany, TX; 7 grandchildren: Justin Eason and wife Tammi, Kelly Eason, Lindsey Crowell, Keri Burroughs and husband Derek, Maedgen Lindsey, Erin James and husband Cory and Thomas Crowell; 7 great grandchildren; brother-in-law and longtime friend Jake “Johnny” Sanders of Denver Colorado; special friend Don Taylor of Avoca, TX and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at Tankersley Funeral Home (807 Columbia) Stamford, TX. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 7, 2022, at the Avoca Baptist Church with the Rev. Les Mims officiating. Burial will be in Spring Creek Cemetery Avoca, TX under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
