Thomas “Tom” Mitchell was born in Elgin, Texas on November 25, 1926, the only child born to Pearl and Mattie Mitchell.
He moved to Stamford, Texas in 1974, where he met his wife Fannie Lou Mays. Tom worked all his life in agriculture working for the Wedeking Family and other farms in the Tuxedo and Stamford area. He retired in 1996 at the age of 70.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Fannie Lou, his parents, brother-in-law, Ernest Mays, and sister-in-law, Billie Sue.
Survivors left to cherish his memories are, Gwen (Ronald) Baker of Stamford, TX; sisters-in-law, Connie Mays of Mansfield, TX and Mattie Sue (Billy) Ford of Stamford, TX; nephews, Don (Era Jo) Mays and Larry Mays all of Stamford, TX. Tom helped raise Travis Eddington of Beaumont, TX, Lawrence Eddington of Dallas, TX and Detrick (Candance) Mays of Seagoville, TX; a special daughter, Mary Franklin of Stamford, TX; four great granddaughters and six great grandsons; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 18, 2019 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Tankersley Funeral Home (807 Columbia). Graveside Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 19 th at Highland Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Paul Wright officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
