Steven Raye Richardson

Heaven gained an amazingly brave “Gentle Giant” on the morning of Saturday, August 30, 2025, when Steven Raye Richardson was gently lifted home to begin his eternal resting with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. After a lengthy battle with medical issues, Steven Raye bravely succumbed to the inevitable at the age of 55 years old.

Steven Raye was born March 26, 1970 in Roswell, New Mexico to Billy Joe Richardson Sr, and JoAnn Autry. He was reared in Roswell and was an exception left-handed baseball player. He was a southpaw pitcher and first baseman, often coached in little league by his grandfather, Mr. Johnny Goodwin. After graduating high school, Steven Raye married his first wife, Anna (Archuleta), spending most of his adult life helping her raise her two young children. Soon after, he fell in love with and married Yvette a(Lueveno). After working 15 years with the city of Roswell, he located to Abilene, Texas where he met the vivacious Tanna (Mabrey), who would be his third wife. In all his relationships, Steven Ray was always a perfect gentleman and very respectful partner. Although he was never blessed with biological children, he was a positive impact and amazing guardian of all his stepchildren. After resolution of this final union and at the end of 10 years of employment with the city of Abilene water department, he relocated to Stamford, Texas. There he resided with and unselfishly assisted in caring for his grandfather, Johnny. In late October 2022, Steven Raye’s health began to fail. It was at that time that he made Refugio, Texas his home. Here, he was surrounded by his loving family and very caring friends and neighbors, until the very day of his passing. Steven Raye loved his family and those who were blessed with the opportunity to know him. As he was a very private man, he enjoyed watching TV, (especially NCIS), sports and indulging in short buy very meaningful phone conversations with family and friends. He was a die-hard, forever San Francisco fan and would never entertain any negative talk about his beloved 49ers. Steven Raye was truly blessed in his personal and private relationship with the LORD our Father, Jesus Christ.

Steven Raye was preceded in death by his parents: his maternal grandparents, Johnny and Ruby Goodwin, his paternal grandparents, Ezekiel and Arleaver Richardson, uncles, Ezekiel, Danny, and Jerry Richardson, his very loving Auntie, Maria Hart and his brothers, Terry Dewayne and Ezekiel Richardson.
