Ruby Joyce Whitley

Ruby Joyce Boyd Whitley was born on January 20, 1936 to Audie Boyd and Susie Bullard Boyd. In Lorraine, TX. She received her education at the Lorraine schools. Ruby passed to her eternal home on January 4, 2020 at the age of 83.

Ruby was the daughter of a preacher, and a Baptist she grew up talented in music and playing the piano. She liked softball and chose it as her school sport. Ruby later lived in Odessa, TX where she married James Whitley on August 26, 1976. The Whitley’s moved from Goldsmith, TX to Stamford, TX in 1981. She worked in healthcare as a nurse’s aide at Teakwood Manor. Ruby loved Christmas, decorating, shopping, spending time with her daughters and grandkids. She enjoyed reading   romance novels, watching soap operas, while in her younger years she like to dance, and her favorite music artist was Marty Robbins. Ruby loved watering her roses and flowers but did not like the planting and weeding part of gardening. Birdhouses and clocks were two of her favorite things, but the clocks all had to be set at the exact same time. She was the epitome of a good housekeeper and homemaker, was never late to anything and could not stand lazy people. If Ruby ever got tickled it were as if she just couldn’t stop laughing!

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two daughters, Debbie Thornton and Linda Lunceford.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Cathy Peterson of Abilene, TX and Shirley Baker of Sweetwater, TX; 1 son, Tommy Joe Baker and wife Vanessa of Alice, TX; 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel (807 Columbia) Stamford, TX with Pastor Bobby Acosta officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Creek Cemetery at Avoca, TX under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
