Long-time Stamford resident Roy Moreno will be laid to rest on Sunday, October 10, 2021. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church (214 N. Swenson) with Paul Vasquez officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
Mr. Moreno died at Hendrick Medical Center on September 19, 2021, at the age of 80 years 6 months and 18 days.
Roy and his twin brother, Alvino were born March 1, 1941, in Stamford, TX to Theodore and Augustina Martinez Moreno. As a young child, he moved to Stamford where he was reared and attended school.
Roy was married to Miss Carmen Vasquez on April 22, 1959, in Stamford, TX, a union that was blessed with three daughters, Sylvia, Patricia and Stella. Roy and Carmen celebrated 54 years of marriage prior to her preceding him in death on December 15, 2013.
Roy was employed by the City of Stamford for 35 years, retiring as the Water Department Supervisor. Roy’s home life was often centered around him being “Grandpa” to his grandchildren. He was delighted when the grandkids came to stay with him, giving him the opportunity to share and teach them the skill of his favorite hobby, fishing. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed old westerns on TV. Roy liked to plant and tend to his large garden each summer. Roy was a kind and loving father, grandpa, husband, and a compassionate caregiver to his wife, Carmen, prior to her passing away. Roy was a member of the Central Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Carmen, his twin brother Alvino, brother Felix, sister Sylvestrita, daughter, Patricia. His granddaughter Victoria Padron Alaniz joined him in Heaven on October 1, 2021.
Roy is survived by his daughter, Sylvia Padron and husband Fred of Stamford, TX: daughter, Stella Sanchez and husband John of Stamford, TX; brother Julian Moreno of Wichita Falls, TX; 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; a host of other relatives and friends.
