Roger Warren Detamore

Roger Warren Detamore was born into this world on New Year’s Day in 1946, he was the son of the late Joe M. and Anna Marie (Lowe) Detamore of Shawnee, OK. He attended the public schools of Shawnee, OK and was a graduate of Shawnee High School.

Roger is a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned several medals, including the Good Conduct Medal, Longevity Medal, Marksman, U.S. Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Medal and 2 S.E. Asia Medals. Roger served in the United States Air Force from June 23, 1965 to May 30, 1969, departing from his service as a disabled veteran. Roger’s tour of duty brought him from Shawnee, OK to Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, TX.

Roger was united in marriage to Miss Judy Medford on April 20, 1968 in Paint Creek, TX. This union was blessed with two children, Rex, and Misty.

Roger was an active member in the city government of Stamford where he served on the City Council, Airport Board, Parks Board, and Chamber of Commerce Board. He was also civic minded as a member of the Jaycees and was a charter member of the Klassy Kar Klub of Stamford. Roger enjoyed collecting and restoring old cars as a hobby. He had a happy go lucky personality and was a friend to many. Roger was often seen around town sporting one of his Taz t-shirts or driving around in his bright yellow restored 1954 Sedan Delivery with a large Taz on the back door, or one of his other restored cars. What gave him the most enjoyment was doting on his children and grandchildren and attending all their activities with his wonderful wife Judy, who he adored. Roger also got great enjoyment out of helping others, most often by cooking for them. He loved to barbecue, competing often in local competitions. Roger simply enjoyed people and making new friends everywhere he went. He was a longtime member of the Orient Church of Christ where he served as a deacon.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Charles Detamore, and sister Mary Lou Detamore.

His life will continue to be cherished by his wife of almost 53 years, Judy Detamore of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Rex and Nicole Detamore of Stamford, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Misty and Cody Mathis of Stamford, TX; grandchildren, Caden Mathis, Tate Mathis, Reagan Detamore and Macy Detamore; sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Clark Kinkaid of Tecumseh, OK; sister Analee Peery of Shawnee, OK; nephew and wife, Clark and Tara Kinkaid ; nephew and wife, Gary and Tammy Chyz; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

On Monday, February 1, 2021, a wonderful husband, dad, pawpaw, and friend was taken too soon after a valent fight with Covid-19. Roger was 75 years old.

Roger’s life will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at the Orient Church of Christ in Stamford, TX with Wes Horn officiating. He will be laid to rest in Willow Cemetery in Haskell, TX under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home. The family will gather for a time of visitation on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 from 6-7:00 p.m. at Tankersley Funeral Home (807 Columbia) Stamford, TX.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent in memory of Roger to the West Texas Rehabilitation Center, 4601 Hartford St., Abilene, TX 79605.
