Robert Diers, 86, of Stamford, Texas, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2024, in Abilene, Texas following a brief illness and surrounded by his family.

Born January 8, 1938, in Denver, Colorado, Robert Edgar Diers was the son of Edgar and Theona (Schielke) Diers. Robert spent his youth in Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, and Texas.  Robert attended Concordia Teachers College in Nebraska and Kearney State Teachers College in Kansas before enlisting in the military.

Robert was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. He met and married the love of his life, Cho while serving in the U.S. Army in Korea. The couple was united in marriage on August 8, 1979, in Seoul and raised three children together - John, Heidi and Robin.

Robert served 20 years in the U.S. Army enlisting in 1961. He was a nuclear specialist and stationed in Germany, Italy, Guam, Korea, and finally Albuquerque, New Mexico where he retired. While serving in the military, Robert received the national defense service medal, the air force commendation medal and the good conduct medal.

After retiring from the military Robert and Cho moved to Old Glory, Texas. Robert spent much of his retirement spending time with family, farming, collecting coins, gardening, caring for his and his children’s animals making sure they were very well fed. He had a knack for fixing and repairing cars and various other items. Aside from his family and being “grandpa”, Robert’s greatest devotion was to the military.

Robert was preceded by his parents, Robert and Theona and a brother, James Diers.

Robert is survived by his wife of almost 45 years, Cho Diers of Stamford, Texas; son John Diers of Stamford, Texas; daughter, Heidi Diers and husband Tim Volk of Plano, Texas; daughter,  Robin Diers of Houston, Texas; 2 brothers, John Diers and Thomas Diers both of Lubbock, Texas: sister Carol Springer of Florida; 2 grandchildren, Kai Volk and Elinor Volk of Plano, Texas; numerous other relatives and friends.

A private family funeral service will be held at a future date in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery,  Abilene, Texas
