Rachel Bruce

Rachel Bruce passed away October 8, 2023, at the age of 87. The family will gather at Tankersley Funeral Home (807 Columbia) from 5-6 p.m. Thursday, October 12th for visitation. Services will be held at 10 a.m. this Friday, October 13, 2023, at Tankersley Funeral Home with Rev. Jesse Morton officiating. Interment will be following in Highland Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.

Rachel was born to Henry and Rosa (Resendez) Pena on May 7, 1936, in Laredo, TX. From an early age, Rachel enjoyed music and singing.  As a young lady with a voice that sounded much like singer Connie Francis, Rachel herself recorded some records. On April 29, 1961, in Laredo, TX Miss Rachel Pena was united in marriage to Job Bob Bruce. Joe Bob and Rachel were married for almost 46 years before he preceded her in death on February 6, 2007. Rachel was a nurturing homemaker, who enjoyed cooking for her family, being “Memaw”, planting flowers, trees, and attending church at Temple Baptist.

Mrs. Bruce was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Bob Bruce, her parents, Henry and Rosa Pena, her brothers: Javiar Pena, Ernie Pena, and Manual Pena, one sister, Martha Verea.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Guy and Nancy Bruce of Stamford, TX; 4 grandchildren: Guy Michael Bruce, Xavier Bruce, Breanna Bruce, and Darian Bruce; 3 brothers: Gilbert Pena of Abilene, TX, Henry Pena of Laredo, TX, John Pena of Chicago, IL; one sister Veronica Slater of Patterson, MO.
