Mike Polk, 69, passed away on February 25, 2026, in Anson, TX.
Michael Wayne Polk, son of Herman Polk, Sr. and Alma Buerger Polk, was born July 15,1956 in Stamford, TX. Mike, as he was known to family and friends, was reared in Stamford by his mother, Alma and stepfather, Joe, who taught him life values early and they carried him through every chapter of his life. He was a 1975 graduate of Stamford High School in 1975.
He was united in marriage to Lisa Stevens in August of 2005 at Hamlin, TX.
Mike worked hard to provide for his family. He was engaged in farming and cattle for twenty-six years. He then worked for Jones County as County Commissioner for twenty years. Mike completed his working career managing rock quarries for thirty-two years, a job and work he found to be fulfilling.
Outside of work, Mike was a loving husband, father, and Pappa Mike, as well as an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, golfing, and spending time on the lake skiing. Outdoors is where Mike found his place of peace and enjoying the beauty of nature.
Mike was a man of Church of Christ faith, living his beliefs through quiet action, giving and always willing to help or teach others. His had a “never quit” attitude, and a genuine kindness that drew people to him. He made friends easily and treasured each friendship.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Alma; his stepfather, Joe Burnham; his brother, Robert Polk; and several other relatives.
Mike is survived by is loving wife, Lisa; children; Chris Polk (Cathy) of Anson, TX, Jory Polk of the Ericksdahl Community, Kerri Sprecher (Shawn) of Abilene, TX, Bretton Vickers (Krista) Stamford, TX and Nicholas Lopez of Lueders, TX; a brother, James Polk of Colorado Springs, CO and a sister, Patsy Lampe (Cecil) of Abilene, TX; and seven grandchildren.
