Merrilyn Sue Hobbs, 78, passed peacefully Friday, May 15, 2026 in Jayton, Texas. She was a devoted mother, grandmom, and friend whose life revolved around the people she loved most.

Merrilyn was born on September 20, 1947, in Odessa, Texas to Jones Edward “Red” Flow and Alline Marie Mahan Flow. Her family later moved to Old Glory, Texas where she attended school and graduated in 1965. At the age of 12, Merrilyn was baptized at Sagerton Methodist Church.

Merrilyn married Kenny Spitzer in 1966 at the First Baptist Church in Aspermont, Texas. Together they were blessed with three sons: Chad, Todd, and Ty. In 1980, Merrilyn married Everett Hobbs in Oklahoma, and their union was blessed with a precious daughter, Tiffany.

Merrilyn was known by her children as an excellent mama and a wonderful cook. She poured her heart into caring for her family, always making sure everyone was fed, loved, and looked after. Her children were the center of her world, and she took great pride in being actively involved in their lives through every stage.

Merrilyn lived in several places throughout her life, but the two main ones were New Castle and Stamford. In Stamford, she worked at Stamford Memorial Hospital and First National Bank.

Merrilyn loved to shop and was famous among family for returning many of the treasurers she bought. In later years, when getting out became more difficult, QVC became her favorite pastime and shopping companion. She enjoyed keeping up her appearance, and her hair and style were always important to her. She never really loved the outdoors, but she deeply loved the comfort of home, family gatherings, conversation, being Grandmom, and relaxing with a good shopping channel on TV.

She will be remembered for her love of family, her sense of humor, her determination, and the countless meals, memories and moments she shared with those she loved.

Merrilyn leaves behind a family who will miss her deeply and cherish the many memories she created throughout her life. Her love and influence will remain in their hearts forever, son Chad Spitzer and wife Konni of Whitney, Texas, son Todd Spitzer and wife Stacie of Old Glory, Texas, son Ty Spitzer and wife Susie of Old Glory, Texas, daughter, Tiffany Hobbs of Lubbock, Texas, stepson, Mike Hobbs and wife Debra of Sonora, Texas; one sister Darlene Phillips of Houston, Texas; 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Merrilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Red and Alline Flow and her brother, Larry Flow.
