Melvin Rosenquist

Melvin Rosenquist, 90, of the Ericksdahl community in Avoca, TX, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 16 th at home surrounded by his family. He was born September 10, 1927 in Stamford, TX to Eric and Martha Rosenquist. He served his country in the Army during WWII, and attended Texas Lutheran College. After returning to Stamford, he met and married Nell Thompson. They raised their three children, Taimi, Russ and Paul, on the family farm. Melvin was a life-long member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Ericksdahl and a faithful servant.

After retiring from farming, he enjoyed traveling in their motor home and wintering in The Valley. He and Nell loved square and round dancing and fellowship with numerous friends across the country. He also loved a good game of Social Security with his grandkids and Dominoes. Melvin had a kind heart and a competitive nature when it came to playing games or his favorite football teams! He was a wonderful husband, father, father-in-law, Papa Mel and friend, and will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nell; daughter Taimi Wendeborn and husband John of Stamford, TX; son Russ Rosenquist and wife Dawn of Plano, TX; son Paul Rosenquist of Ericksdahl, TX; grandchildren Adria Martinez and husband Michael, Jacob Wendeborn and wife Marni, Kyle Rosenquist and wife Jacqueline, Blair Schrodel and husband Matthew; great grandchildren Ace and Cy Martinez; sister Becky Nauert and husband Leland and numerous nieces and nephews in the Nauert and Haterius families. He will be greeted in heaven by his sister Marjorie Haterius, brother-in-law Birger, and his parents. Melvin’s family wishes to thank Cathy Jo Pender and Brenda Griggs for the gentle and loving care given to him these past few months, and to Hendrick Hospice for caring for him in his final days. They are also grateful for the cards, meals and support from neighbors and the Bethel community.

Pall bearers will be Michael Martinez, Jacob Wendeborn, Kyle Rosenquist, Matthew Schrodel, Robert Mullins and Fred Padron. Honorary Pallbearers will be David Ballard, Kenny Buerger and Mark Lundgren.

The family will gather for visitation at Tankersley Funeral Home, 807 S. Columbia in Stamford, TX on Tuesday, September 19 th from 5:30-7:00 p.m. A celebration of his life will be Wednesday, September 20 th , at 1:00 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church, 10625 N FM Rd. 600 Avoca, TX 79503 with Rev. Richard Strait officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.

Because family was important to Melvin, in lieu of flowers, please share a meal with your family and enjoy the time you have together. If desired, memorial gifts may be made to Bethel Lutheran or the charity of your choice.
