Maria G. Cantu

Maria Cantu was born January 20, 1943, in Durango, Mexico, to Martin and Domitilla Barraza Zamora. Maria, age 78, passed away and met her Savior on Tuesday, February 16, 2021.

Family and friends will gather for visitation from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Tankersley Funeral Home, 807 Columbia, Stamford, TX. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jesus Villarreal officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery.

Maria was 7 years old when she moved from Mexico to south Texas. She later moved to the Stamford and Abilene area where she live the remainder of her life. Maria married Rosalio Cantu, Sr. in Edinburg, TX in 1964. She worked in housekeeping at the Executive Inn in Abilene 15 years prior to having health issues. Maria was a Christian woman who loved her family and grandchildren immensely. She also loved to shop, but her shopping usually was for her grandchildren, buying them toys, candy and sometimes clothes. Maria was often found sitting outside enjoying the nature and her grandchildren playing. Maria was a true homemaker who enjoyed cleaning and cooking for her family. She was a woman of strength and fight when dealing with her health issues.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Domitilla, 4 sisters: Severina Rodriquez, Juana Zavala, Adela Garcia, Mary Martinez, and a brother Reyes Zarmora.

She is survived by her husband Rosalio Cantu, Sr.; her son and daughter-in-law, Rosalio Cantu, Jr. and Jeanette of Stamford, TX; 1 brother and sister-in-law, Nicholas Zamora and Marciana of South Texas; 1 sister and brother-in-law, Julia Peralez and David of Abilene, TX; 5 grandchildren: Emily Farary (Luis), Carlos Cantu, Adriana Cantu, Victoria Cantu, and Daniel Cantu all of Stamford; 4 great grandchildren: Rosie, Yessinea, Luis (Peanut) and Zayliana (Lupita) and family friend, Tommy Frary.
