Lora Lynn Hunt, artist, and educator departed this earthly life on May 28, 2024 in McKinney, Texas at the age of 75.
Lora was born on July 23, 1948, in Austin, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Lynn Hunt and Dr. Jackie (Hansen) Hunt. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Texas Tech University in 1971 and completed her postgraduate work at the University of Texas in 1976.
Early on in Lora’s career she used her gifted art talents to work as a production artist, an art teacher and graphic artist in the Austin area. As a young entrepreneur in 1978 she spread her wings and became the owner, partner Lubbock (Texas) Lights Art Gallery, 1978-1981, Loose Change Gift Shop, Lubbock, 1980-1981. Artist, partner Hunt-Johnson Marquetry, Austin and Mason, Texas, since 1980. Art teacher Institute for Gifted, Lubbock, since 1989. She had many consignments and showings of Wood Marquetry projects around the U.S.A.
Lora was honored with numerous achievements for her dedication to her career and the communities where she lived. Lora Lynn Hunt was listed as a notable artist, educator by Marquis Who's Who, she was a finalist American Works in Wood, recipient Arts Achievement award Artist Society International. In her community she was a member or participated in the Lutheran church, Mason Study Club, the Mason Chamber of Commerce, “Old Yeller Days”, and served on the Make Mason Marvelous Committee. Making her an even more well-rounded lady in her personal time she enjoyed camping, reading, singing, and sewing. Lora was lovingly known as “Pickens” by family and friends.
Lora was preceded in death by her parents, Drs. Lynn and Jackie Hunt; brother, Trey Hunt; uncle, Johnny Hansen.
Lora’s memories will be cherished by her brother and sister-in-law, Dane and Katrina Hunt of McKinney, Texas; niece, Amanda Hilton; aunt, Fern Ballard; special friend, Spider Johnson; and many beloved cousins and friends.
There will be a Celebration of life on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 11:00 am to honor her. The celebration will be at the Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery (Ericksdahl Community) at 10625 FM 600 N Avoca, Texas 79503.
