Lonnie Clyde Applin, a lifelong resident of Stamford, TX died on Monday, May 27, 2024, at the age of 71.
Lonnie was born in Artesia, New Mexico to George and Bertie (Franklin) Applin on March 21, 1953, and the last of their 16 children to pass away. He graduated from Stamford High School in 1971. Lonnie was a Baptist by faith and a member of the Mount Olive Church. On March 23, 1985, he married Miss Carolyn Woods in Anson, TX.
Lonnie began his working career with the Burlington Railroad. His love for cooking eventually took him to the restaurant business where he cooked for Perini Ranch in Buffalo Gap, TX, Cliff House in Stamford, TX and the Rustic Café in Haskell, TX.
Lonnie was a kind man who cared for and helped others. He was a devoted father, and Papa to his children and grandchildren. He was the patriarch of his family and often referred to as “the man in charge”. Lonnie loved to listen to music and barbecue.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, George, and Bertie Applin, 6 brothers: George Jr., Curlee, Ernest, Johnny, Matthew Wayne, and James, 9 sisters, Etta Pearl, Edrina, Ollie Faye, Dorothy, Bertie, Gloria, Rosemary, Bobbie and Katherine and 1 grandson, Tyran Lamont Conner Jr.
Lonnie is survived by his wife, Carolyn Applin of Stamford, TX; daughter, Sharon Applin and husband Ronnie of Killeen, TX; daughter, Stephanie Johnson and husband Quincy of Stamford, TX; son, Lonnie Applin, Jr. and wife Laura of McKinney, TX; daughter, Savannah Applin and husband Lavorick of Stamford, TX; 13 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and numerous other relatives, and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Stamford, TX. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home. Visitation will be at Tankersley Funeral Home (807 Columbia) on Friday, May 31, 2024, from 6 to 7 p.m.
