Kelly Hughes Porter

Kelly Hughes Porter was called home to her Lord on Wednesday, January 2, 2019.

Memorial Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel (807 Columbia) Stamford, Texas with services under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home. A private family interment will be held later.

Born December 27, 1956, to Billy Charles Hughes and Zoe Wynell (Wilson) Hughes, Kelly, to all who knew her, was a unique and caring individual who touched their lives. She was a lifetime resident of the Stamford and Abilene areas and a past member of Trinity Baptist Church.

She was a 1975 graduate of Stamford High School where she played the drums in the Bulldog Band. Kelly continued her education at Cisco Jr. College School of Nursing where she earned her LVN License. She worked at Skyview Living Center, Abilene State School and several home health agencies. Kelly was a caring nurse who had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way… she truly had a servant’s heart that led her to a career of taking care of others.

Kelly truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures: chatting with friends and family and spending time caring for God’s creatures. She had an affinity for taking in stray animals and seeing that they had a good home. Kelly’s spare time was spent sharing time with her pets & shopping at flea markets.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Zoe Hughes in 2007; and her stepmother, Carmen Hughes in 2016.

She is survived by her father, Billy Charles Hughes of Abilene, TX; 2 brothers, Charles Hughes and wife Judy and Jason Hughes all of Abilene, TX; and a host of other relatives and friends.
