Juan Bautista Gutierrez

Juan Gutierrez,70, will be laid to rest on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at 10 a.m. following Graveside services at Highland Memorial Cemetery with Father Joseph Kurumbel officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home. A Rosary will be held at 5:00 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2020 at Tankersley Funeral Home (807 Columbia) in Stamford, TX.

Juan Bautista Gutierrez was born March 8, 1950 in San Luis Potosi Mexico to Atanasio and Maria (Bautista) Gutierrez. Juan was one of the eight children born to this union. He received his education in Mexico.

Juan moved from Mexico to Stamford, TX and soon met Miss Emma Gonzales. After knowing each other for only about two weeks, the couple married on October 1, 1971 in Knox City, TX creating a union lasting 49 years. Juan would often refer to Emma as, “My Beautiful Wife”.

Juan worked as a ginner at Corinth Gin in Anson, TX until he retired in 2001 due to health issues, and moved to Abilene, TX. Juan was also a cotton farmer. He was very family oriented, spending his time with his family, and was lovingly known as “Pops”. He was a member of the Catholic church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Atanasio, son, Juan Louis Gutierrez, and brother, Porfirio Rico.

Survivors include his beautiful wife, Emma Gutierrez of Abilene, TX; his mother, Maria Bautista Gutierrez of San Louis Potosi Mexico; daughter and son-in-law Maria and Narsiso Alamilla of Abilene, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Eva and Felix Martinez of Abilene, TX; daughter, Esmerelda Hampton of Abilene, TX; daughter and son-in-law. Juanita and
Brody Andrews of Potosi, TX; son, Juan Gutierrez, Jr., and wife Crystal of Abilene, TX. 1 brother; 5 sisters; 19 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
