This is a tribute to a life well lived for almost a century by Joyce Lucille (Stegemoeller) LeFevre. Joyce was a wonderful woman that was loved, will be missed, and will always be cherished. Joyce had many roles in life, a favorite being “Nanny,” as she liked to be called by her grandchildren, and “Mama,” to her four children, was an amazing wife, mom, daughter. Joyce was reunited with her Savior and her husband, Delbert on Sunday, June 5, 2022, at the age of 97.
Joyce’s life story began in Sagerton, TX on September 26, 1924, the only child born to Will and Louise “Balzar” Stegemoeller. In Sagerton, TX Joyce would spend her childhood, grow up, make many lifelong friends, and go to school. Elementary school is where she would meet the love of her life, Delbert LeFevre. Joyce and Delbert were married in the Lutheran Church in Sagerton on July 6, 1943, while he was on leave from training in North Carolina during WWII. Linda their first child was born during Delbert’s deployment. In the years that followed, the family was completed with the birth of two sons, Larry and Kent, and another daughter, Jill.
As the matriarch of her family Joyce wore many hats in her lifetime. She began working outside of the home in 1954 at Felts Manufacturing Co. in Stamford, TX, and eventually spent 20 plus years working at the Haskell County Appraisal District as the tax accessor. In the Sagerton Community Joyce was the typist for the Sun News, worked in the office at the Sagerton Gin, and was the sexton for the Fairview Cemetery. Joyce worked tirelessly as a member of the Methodist Church, the Sagerton Hobby Club with their many projects and during Hee Haw she oversaw the kitchen. Joyce was a true homemaker who loved to cook, sew, and quilt, making lots of quilts for others. Joyce was once honored as Sagerton’s “Citizen of the Year”.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Louise Stegemoeller, her husband of almost 73 years, Delbert LeFevre on May 23, 2016, son-in-law, Ken Brown, 2 grandsons, Rus Bailey and Rob Bailey.
Left to cherish Joyce’s memories are her two daughters, Linda LeFevre and Jill Brown both of Sagerton, TX; two sons, Larry LeFevre and wife Susan of Rule, TX, and Kent LeFevre and wife Kathy of Tuscola, TX; grandchildren, Brad Bailey and wife Melissa of Plano, TX, Brian Bailey and wife Vonda of Wylie, TX, Larressa Earthman and husband Eric of O’Brien, TX, Shane LeFevre and wife Julie of Rule TX, Kit LeFevre and wife Megan of Tuscola, TX, Kinsey Brown of Abilene, TX, Tully Brown and wife Amanda of Lubbock TX, and Cade Brown and wife Colin of Aspermont, TX; 20 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Joyce’s life will be celebrated during Funeral Services at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2022, at the Sagerton Methodist Church with Rev. Stephanie Gilkey officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Sagerton, TX under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home. Joyce’s family will be receiving friends during visitation Friday, June 10, 2022, from 6 to 7 pm at Tankersley Funeral Home (807 Columbia) Stamford, TX.
