Jose Zambrano Martinez Sr.

Jose Z. Martinez Sr., of Avoca, TX, departed this life on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 in Abilene, TX. Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday October 25, 2018 at Tankersley Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Friday, October 26, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Stamford, TX with Father Chacko Thadathil officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Creek Cemetery at Avoca, TX under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.

Jose was born March 19, 1941 in Mathis, TX to Esteban and Nassario (Zambrano) Martinez. He graduated from Avoca High School and went on to serve his country in the US Army and the Army National Guard. Jose worked in the oil field and ranching business. The Martinez family moved to the area over 30 years ago from Cross Plains, TX, He was a member of the Catholic Church.

Jose and Martha Olivares were united in marriage on April 23, 1966 in Stamford, Texas.

Jose was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Janie Martinez.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years Martha Martinez of Avoca, TX; his 5 children, Lupie Kaufmann of Fort Worth, TX, Esteban Martinez of Anson, TX, Jose Martinez, Jr. of Fort Worth, TX, daughter Elizabeth Secakuku of Arizona and daughter Michelle Davis of Lueders, TX; 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers for Mr. Martinez will be Alfred Robles, Ruben Gonzales, Martin Gonzales, Joe Martinez Jr., Elijah Flores, and Brandon Moon.
