On Sunday, December 2, 2018 heaven gained a special angel as John Allen Mead, IV entered his eternal home at the age of 57.
John was born March 8, 1961 in San Angelo, TX to John Allen Mead, III and Willie Jean Brown Mead. He moved from Austin, TX to Stamford on February 6, 2005.
John was friendly and outgoing and loved his friends at Sagebrush and family especially his Aunt Kathy “Khaki” Vinson from Hawley. He enjoyed going to visit her and helping her in the café with the many tasks at a restaurant. John was a huge fan of George Strait and even had the opportunity to meet him at a concert. John’s dream vacation became a reality when he got to spend a week in Disney World. He loved to compete in Special Olympics and earned his claim to fame when they selected him to be their “Poster Boy”.
John is survived by his dad, John Allen Mead, III of Austin, TX; his mom Jean of Artesia, NM; sister Sherri Pitts of Artesia, NM; brother John David Binkley of Artesia, NM; uncle and aunt, Kenneth and Kathy Vinson of Hawley, TX; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Preceding John in death were his stepdad David Binkley, uncles, Woody Bearden, Donny Bearden and aunt Gloria Bearden.
John’s life will be celebrated with graveside services 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at the Hawley Cemetery with Doug Stanley officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home in Stamford, TX.
