A beloved husband, dad, grandpa, and friend to many, Jesse R. Sanchez was born to Victor Sanchez, Sr., and Aurora Ramirez Sanchez on June 14, 1935 in Gonzales, TX. He passed away at his home in Abilene, TX on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at the age of 88 years.
Jesse spent his early years in Gonzales, TX. He moved to the Jones, Haskell county area where he attended school at Sagerton, TX. Jesse was a catholic by faith and was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Abilene, TX. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus for several years.
On September 18, 1955, he was united in marriage to Miss Aurora "Lola" Vasquez in Stamford, TX.
Jesse began working in the radiator repair business in 1956, making it his life career, working in Knox City, Haskell, and Stamford.
Jesse was a person who enjoyed music in his life from playing the drums, to singing, to taking a spin around the dance floor. Jesse and Lola spent many Saturday evenings watching the Daniel O'Donnell Show on TV. Sports wise, Jesse was loyal to two teams, the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers. Around the house Jesse took pride in keeping his yard as long as his health allowed. Jesse loved to take his sweet Lola out to eat at various restaurants, with his favorite eatery being the Golden Corral.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Aurora, 2 sons, John Sanchez and Adam Sanchez, 1 grandson, Michael Wayne Thompson, 5 sisters, Mamie Cedillo, Lily Moreno, Patsy Elias, Mary Helen Sanchez, and Isidora Guerrera, 2 brothers, Victor Sanchez Jr. and Wally Sanchez.
His memories will be cherished by his wife, Lola Sanchez of Abilene, TX, 2 sons, Michael Ray Sanchez of Abilene, TX and Jesse James Sanchez of Queensland, Australia, 2 daughters, Gloria Sanchez of Abilene, TX and Lynn Smith of Abilene, TX, 2 sisters,Isabel Gomez of Abilene, TX and Margie Gomez of Fort Worth, TX, 1 brother and sister-in-law, Ruben and Mary Sanchez of Abilene, TX, 6 grandchildren, Jessica Martinez (Jeff) of Cuero, TX, David Sanchez of Denton, TX, Dallas Sanchez (Mary) of Canberra, Australia, Dillon Sanchez of Austin, TX, Jaxon Smith of Abilene, TX, and Jagger Gonzales of Abilene, TX, 2 great grandchildren, Elex Martinez and Adam Martinez, both of San Antonio, TX and a host of other relatives and friends.
A Rosary will be held at the Tankersley Funeral Home (807 Columbia) Stamford, TX on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 21st at the St. Francis Catholic Church (826 Cottonwood St.) in Abilene, TX with Bishop Joe Vasquez officiating. Interment will follow in the Highland Memorial Cemetery in Stamford, TX under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
