Jane Whittemore, 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 3, 2026, at her home in Stamford, Texas. She was born on October 1, 1931, in Paint Creek, Texas to the late T.F. Davis and Bessie Pirkle Davis.
Jane graduated from Anson High School before continuing her education at Draughon's Business College in Abilene, Texas. The knowledge and skills she gained there prepared her for a distinguished 38-year career with West Texas Utilities (WTU), where she became known for her dedication, professionalism, and unwavering work ethic. She worked her way up through the chain of command, ultimately retiring as the Stamford District Manager.
On the 12th day of May 1951, Miss Jane Davis married the love of her life, Mr. C.W. "Sprit" Whittemore, Jr. Together they built a life rooted in faith, love, and devotion to family. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Kayla, Kyle, Kerry, and Kevin, who were the pride and joy of her life.
A woman of deep faith, Jane was a faithful member of First Baptist Church. She shared her love of music as a member of the Golden Age Choir and the Hand Bell Choir. Above all, she had a servant’s heart. Whether caring for family, helping a neighbor, or quietly meeting the needs of others without seeking recognition, she found joy in serving. She was the steady foundation of her family and never hesitated to put the needs of others before her own.
Jane cherished every opportunity to attend little league games, Sheriff’s posse events, school programs, and special moments of her children and grandchildren. Her presence in the stands, the audience, or on the sidelines was a constant reminder of her love and encouragement. She treasured every milestone and celebrated the accomplishments of those she loved. And… she dearly loved being “Grandma Jane and Nana J”. Jane also served as a volunteer at the Stamford Art Foundation Art Show & Sale each year during the Texas Cowboy Reunion Rodeo. As Jane went through life supporting her family, helping others, and volunteering, she did everything with style, grace, and unwavering dignity. She approached every task with poise and kindness, always carrying herself in a manner that was both admirable and inspiring.
Throughout the years, Jane and Sprit shared countless adventures with their dear friends, Carl and Delores Bearden and Oliver and Mary Swenson, traveling together and creating cherished lifetime memories across the country.
Jane was preceded by her parents, her husband of 71 years, Sprit, a son, Kevin Whittemore, four brothers, and one sister.
Jane's life will be cherished by her daughter, Kayla Brown of Stamford, Texas; her son and daughter-in-law, Kyle Davis and Linda Whittemore of Fort Worth, Texas; her son, Kerry Wade Whittemore of Tuxedo, Texas; her sister-in-law, Marianna Whittemore of Odessa, Texas; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild on the way; and numerous other relatives and dear friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Tankersley Funeral Home, 807 Columbia Street, Stamford, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Stamford, with Rev. Christopher Shupe officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Funston, Texas, under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hendrick Hospice for the compassionate love, care, and support they provided to Jane throughout her journey.
