James "Jimmy" Griffin

Longtime Jones County resident James “Jimmy” Griffin passed from this life into eternal life with his precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 14, 2021, at his home with his family in Stamford, Texas. Jimmy was 87 years old.

Jimmy was born July 26, 1933, in Hamlin, TX, he was one of eight children born to Doc and Mary Holt Griffin.

Jimmy graduated from Hamlin High School in 1951. He entered the Air Force on July 7, 1952 and served our country until July 6, 1956 during the Korean War. Following his tour of duty Jimmy began working at Celotex in Hamlin, TX.  He completed his working career at Big Country Electric Cooperative where he started as a lineman and completed his 35-year working career as Administrative assistant.

Jimmy married Helen Baker on August 2, 1958, in Hamlin, TX, they were blessed to welcome two daughters, Christy and Cheryl. Jimmy and Helen celebrated 62 years of marriage.

Jimmy and Helen were active members in their church, Temple Baptist, where he taught Sunday school and served as church treasurer for many years. Jimmy was a wonderful Godly husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed the many summer vacations with Lee and family as well as going to Lake Leon with the nieces and nephews. Any day spent communing with nature and fishing was a day well spent for Jimmy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Doc and Mary; four brothers: Gray Griffin, Cleve Griffin, Doc Griffin and John Griffin; three sisters, Della Axe, Sylvia Scott, and Carmelita Williams.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Helen Griffin of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Christy and Randall Ziegenhagen of Royce City, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Bobby Lopez of Forney, TX; four grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Temple Baptist Church with Bro. Jesse Morton officiating. Interment will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
