Hollis Lee Muehlstein

July 31, 1942 — March 31, 2023

Lifetime Jones County resident Hollis Muehlstein, age 80, departed his earthly life on Friday, March 31, 2023, to follow his Lord and Savior to the fields of heaven. Visitation will be Sunday, April 2, 2023, from 5-6:00 p.m. at Tankersley Funeral Home (807 Columbia) Stamford, TX. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 3, 2023, at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ericksdahl with Pastor Paul Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.

Hollis Lee Muehlstein’s life began on July 31, 1942, in Stamford, TX. He was the oldest child born to Jimmy and Linda (Roeber) Muehlstein. Hollis would spend his childhood, grow up, make many lifelong friends, and graduate from Stamford High School in 1959. Hollis continued his education at Texas Tech University. Hollis was a lifetime member of the Bethel Lutheran Church where he served as Sunday school superintendent for 35 years. He was also a member of the Young Farmer Association and served as a board member for 20 plus years at the Stamford Coop Gin.

Hollis was united in marriage to Jan Rogers on March 17, 2004, at the home of Pastor Stan Leaf in a pastoral setting under a blooming plum tree in Avoca, TX.

Hollis was born to be a farmer. He lived to till the soil and plant crops. His son’s summed up his life by saying, “He farmed!” The love for his career choice was enhanced by getting to work alongside of his sons.

Hollis’ grandchildren were his heart and joy, and “Grandpa” was his favorite title. There was no denying that, his grandbabies were the people that he loved the most.

Hollis and Jan enjoyed traveling and camping. Hollis found pleasure in sharing these trips with friends, meeting new people along the way, but mainly he treasured the social time, he loved being around people.

Hollis was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Linda Muehlstein, and brother Gary Muehlstein.

Survivors include his wife, Jan Muehlstein of Avoca, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Matt and Tave Muehlstein of Nugent, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Kristi Muehlstein of Stamford, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Sabrina Muehlstein of Stamford, TX; grandchildren: Sydney Nichols and husband Garrett, Abby Muehlstein, Bailey Muehlstein and fiancé Alex, Mia Muehlstein, Jacob Muehlstein and wife Haileigh, and Jared Muehlstein; and a host of other relatives and friends.
