Greta Diane Corbitt, 88, entered eternal peace on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at a care facility in Abilene, TX.
Greta was born in Stamford, TX on October 18, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Adolph and Ruth Anderson Olson. She graduated from high school in Lueders, TX in 1952. Greta attended college at Tarleton State College in Stephenville, TX and graduated from East Texas State in Commerce, TX with a degree in elementary education. Greta moved to Amarillo, TX where she earned her Master’s degree in education from West Texas State University in Canyon. Her teaching career lasted for 33 years before she retired and moved back to Lueders, TX.
Greta married Mr. Frank Corbitt on December 17, 1977, at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ericksdahl.
Greta was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church where she was an active member and officer in WELCA, she also provided music with her numerous musical instruments as well as solos for church services. Greta was a member and served as president of the Stamford Music Club and was a former member of the VFW at Lueders.
In her retirement, she enjoyed family gatherings, reading, spending time with Frank traveling in their RV, bluegrass music festivals, and her dogs, Scooter, and Max.
Greta was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Ruth, her husband of 42 years, Frank Corbitt, and her stepson Mark Corbitt.
She is survived by 2 daughters Shannon Gibson and husband Roger of Lueders, TX; Barbara Bade of Katy, TX; 2 brothers, David Olson and wife Joyce of Lueders, TX and Sheridan Olson of Abilene, TX; 5 grandchildren, Jeffery Corbitt and wife Christine of Ft. Worth, TX, Olin Gibson and wife Michele of Amarillo, TX , Dallas Gibson and wife Andi of Land O Lakes, FL and Ross Bade; 6 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will be receiving guests at Tankersley Funeral Home (807 Columbia) in Stamford, TX on Tuesday, May 30th from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, with Rev. Richard Strait and Don Heller, PLM officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
