Dorothy Nell Jeter

The world lost a wealth of knowledge, wisdom, faith, and love on Saturday, September 25, 2026, with the passing of Dorothy Nell Jeter, 87, of Stamford, Texas. Dorothy possessed an infectious love for life and learning. She was always seeking new experiences and adventures, expanding her knowledge, advancing herself, and, most importantly, using what she learned to help others.

Dorothy Nell Hayes was born September 2, 1939, in Sulligent, Alabama, to Thurman and Donnie Elizabeth Hollis Love Hayes. At the age of 11, she moved with her family to Midland, Texas, and later settled in the Houston area where she worked until 1993. Dorothy and Robert moved to Stamford, Texas, in 2006 to enjoy retirement.

Dorothy’s spiritual foundation in Christ was established at an early age. At just seven and a half years old, she dedicated her life to Christ through repentance and baptism. Her steadfast faith remained a guiding light throughout her life, shaping the way she loved, served, and cared for others.

On November 21, 1973, Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert Jeter in Beaumont, Texas. Their marriage was a testament to love and commitment, lasting 53 years.

Dorothy was a woman of prayer, principle, compassion, and determination. She was deeply committed to learning and personal growth. During her years as an executive assistant with Houston Pipeline, she pursued and earned degrees offered through the company. She later became an entrepreneur, owning and operating Professional Documents in Pasadena, Texas. Through her business, Dorothy helped countless people by writing resumes and wills, preparing college documents, assisting students in obtaining college funding, and serving as a notary public.

Her greatest treasures, however, were her family and the people she was able to help. To her family, Dorothy was a safe place—a source of comfort, wisdom, encouragement, and unconditional love. As “Grandma,” she had a special way of making everyone feel cared for, welcomed, and secure.

Dorothy loved her family deeply. She also enjoyed shopping, tending to her beautiful flowers and plants, learning new things, and experiencing life to the fullest. She was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and the Second Amendment Foundation. She had a keen eye and enjoyed target practice and time spent shooting.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; three daughters, Marybeth Almond, Brenda Smith, and Debra Davison; two sisters, Ruby Golden and Minnie Brassfield; and seven brothers, James Hayes, A.J. Hayes, Thurman Hayes, Ray Hayes, Franklin Hayes, John Sherrell Hayes, and Jerry Hayes.

Dorothy is lovingly survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert Jeter of Stamford, Texas; her children, Dale Lee Roberson of Florida, Marty Lynn Stringer of Abilene, Texas, Ricky Jeter (Karen), and Linda Renee Muniz, both of Monahans, Texas; two sisters, Virginia Gibson of New Braunfels, Texas, and Mary McGinty of Beaumont, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends who were blessed to know and love her.

Dorothy’s life touched generations. Her faith, her willingness to help others, her thirst for knowledge, and the love she so freely gave will continue through the many lives she influenced. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy will live on in her family, her friends, and all those who were fortunate enough to cross her path.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 28, 2026, at Tankersley Funeral Home, 807 Columbia Street, Stamford, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Trinity Church, with Dr. Robert Wingrove officiating.

Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
