Clinton Harold Rogers

March 21, 1928 — October 10, 2023

A beloved father, grandfather and friend, Clinton Harold Rogers was born to Henry and Ida (Stevenson) Rogers on March 21, 1928, near Stamford, TX. He passed away on October 10, 2023, in Abilene, TX. Clinton left a rich legacy to his children and grandchildren having celebrated 95 years of life.

His childhood and growing up years were on the family farm near Stamford, where he developed his skills as a farmer and a love for farming. He received his education in the Stamford Schools where he graduated in 1945.

As a young man he chose to serve in the National Guard, doing his basic training at Fort Polk in Vernon Parish, LA. Clinton began his working career as a farmer, a career he kept and continued as a side business while working for Lone Star Gas Company for 42 years.

Clinton married Miss Betty Fox on September 24, 1949, in Rule, TX. A union lasting 52 years and blessed with 3 children: Steve, Russ, and Rebecca prior to her death on April 11, 2001. It was through music and fellowship at the VIP Senior Citizen Center, that another good woman, Jean Boggs entered Clinton’s life. Clinton and Jean were married on June 8, 2002, and shared 17 years together before her passing on May 30, 2019.

Clinton was a member of the Orient Street Church of Christ, and nothing made him happier than singing in church, and serving as a deacon. He became good friends with Pastor Fenter Northern, who had his pilot's license and a plane, taking them on many trips together.

As a young man Clinton loved to hunt and bowl on a league in Stamford. He was civically involved in the Lions Club, TCR Rodeo and rode in the TCR parade numerous times with his son and grandchildren. As he matured, Clinton took up golfing with his friends and went to the VIP every morning to drink his coffee. The Texas Rangers was his sports team, watching them as often as he could. Simple pleasures in Clinton’s life included having his Blue Bell Ice Cream every night, his love for Christmas and making his famous pecan pies and peanut butter fudge, loving his family and being “Paps”.

Clinton was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ida Rogers; wife, Betty Fox Rogers; wife Jean Boggs Rogers; 3 brothers and sisters-in-law: Carl and Ida Mae Rogers, Iredell and Loyce Rogers, Boots and June Rogers; 2 sisters and brothers-in-law: Lottie and Roy Cook and Mildred and Charles England.
