Clara Ann Richards

June 23, 1940 — February 18, 2021

Clara Richards, age 80, a loving farmers wife, mother, homemaker, and devoted nana to her grandchildren and great grandchildren left this world on Thursday, February 18, 2021.

Clara Ann Fischer began her life’s journey on June 23, 1940, the oldest child born to Paul and Frances (Peiser) Fischer in Haskell County Texas. Clara’s family lived on the farm in Haskell County, where Clara would spend her childhood, grew up, and graduate from Paint Creek High School before continuing her education at vocational school.

She met the love of her life, Darrell “Chub” Richards and they were married on June 17, 1967 at Bethel Lutheran Church in the Ericksdahl Community. Clara and Darrell began their married life on a farm north of Lueders, before settling in Ericksdahl. Darrell and Clara were the proud parents of a daughter Ursula, and twin sons Fritz and Erick.

Clara devoted her life to taking care of her family and working in her community. She was a 4-H Adult Leader, a member of the Stamford Civic Club, Texas Cowboy Reunion Old Timers Association, Sons of Hermann Lodge, Stamford Hospital Auxiliary and Yours Mine and Ours Gift Shop. Clara owned and operated Country Friends and Frames in Stamford for several years. Clara was a faithful member of Bethel Lutheran Church where she served as the church secretary for 42 years and was a member of the Business Women’s Willing Workers. Clara was currently attending church at Trinity Lutheran in Haskell, TX.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents, Paul, and Frances, 4 brothers-in-law, Jerry Jones, Sam Chaffin, Rev. Clements Richards, and Don Burton.

Clara’s life and memories will be cherished by her husband of 53 years, Darrell Richards of Avoca, TX; daughter, Ursula Richards of Kyle, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Erick and Patsy Richards of Stamford, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Fritz and Traci Richards of Dunn, North Carolina; grandchildren, Jake Richards and wife Caitlin, Sarah Richards, Keith Richards, Faith Richards, Wyatt Richards and Corina Richards; great grandchildren, Graham Richards and Collins Rae Richards; sister Margaret Chaffin and husband Jim Tom Butler of Albany, TX, sister Paulette Jones of Dallas, TX; sister-in-law, Margert Richards; sister-in-law, Barbara Burton; numerous beloved nieces and nephews and friends.

Clara’s family and friends will gather at Tankersley Funeral Home, 807 Columbia Stamford, TX Saturday, February 20, 2021from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. for visitation. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 21, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Haskell, TX with Rev. Steven Miller officiating. Burial will follow at the Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery in the Ericksdahl Community under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made in Clara’s memory to the West Texas Rehabilitation Center, 4601 Hartford St., Abilene, TX 79605, or your favorite charity.
