A Texan who loved his family and the outdoors Chris Hager was born February 15, 1939 in Jones County, Texas and passed on November 3, 2018. He was 79 years old.
Chris was one of seven children born to Walter Richard Hager and Bertha (Mickler) Hager. He attended school at Stamford High School. He was a member of the Baptist Church and was self-employed in the commercial weed control business.
Chris was married to Joyce Newell on September 10, 1988 in Callahan County, Texas.
Chris will be remembered for his passionate love of horses, going to the horse races in Ruidoso, NM, as a PBR fanatic, watching the Cowboy channel, and he was an avid outdoorsman who appreciated God’s beautiful creation. Chris left an impression on all who had the privilege of meeting him from his zest for life personality with a huge heart, only surpassed by his smile. Chris was loved by all his family and his wide range of friends.
Chris is survived by his wife of 30 years, Joyce Newell Hager of Abilene, TX; 2 sons, Mark Hager (Juanita) of Euless, TX and Stacy Wade Hager of Gatesville, TX; sister June Neff of San Angelo, TX and brother Don Hager (Tanis) of May Pearl, TX; 5 grandchildren; Christina Harris (Shawn), Nicole Hager, Clayton Brewer, Beckett Blaine Weldon and Pyper Lakely Weldon; 2 great grandchildren, Victoria Rendon and Parker Harris.
Chris is predeceased by his parents, sister, Margaret Ruth Strickland, 3 brothers, W.R. Hager, Dolly Hager and Jack Hager.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel (807 Columbia) with David Hager officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Creek Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
