Chester Wayne Clinkinbeard, 70, a beloved father, devoted husband, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
Chester was known for his unwavering kindness, generous heart, and willingness to help anyone in need. He touched the lives of everyone he met, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and friendship.
His memory and the many “life lessons” he taught—from changing flat tires to sharing his common knowledge—will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he will be deeply missed, the love he shared and the lives he touched will remain a part of his legacy forever.
Chester was born June 15, 1956, in Colorado City, Texas, to the late Charles Clinkinbeard and Peggy (Davis) Clinkinbeard Newcomb. He was a 1974 graduate of Lueders-Avoca High School.
Chester was united in marriage to Miss Jackie Watts on June 6, 1976, at Avoca Baptist Church. This union was blessed with a daughter, Kimberly, and a son, Cory, and celebrated 50 years of marriage. As Chester and Jackie’s family expanded through the years, Chester became known as “Pop” to his grandchildren, as well as to his nieces and nephews.
Chester was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at the lake. He also loved watching Rangers baseball, both in person and on television. These activities provided precious opportunities for family time and memories that will be treasured for years to come.
Chester was of the Baptist faith and served as a deacon at Avoca Baptist Church. He was also active in his community, serving on the Lueders-Avoca School Board.
Throughout his working career, Chester wore many hats. He served in the Marine Corps Reserve, farmed, and worked as a welder for White Tank Company in Albany, Texas. He later established himself as the owner of Country 4 Convenience Store, where he served his community for 22 years before retiring.
Chester was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Clinkinbeard and Peggy Newcomb; his stepfather, Sam Newcomb; and his sisters, Debra Crowe and Jean Mylam.
His legacy will be carried on by his loving wife, Jackie Clinkinbeard of Avoca, Texas; daughter, Kimberly De Ann Neal (John) of Lueders, Texas; son, Cory Gene Clinkinbeard (Stacy) of Avoca, Texas; sister, Sandra Lynn Crowson (Mike) of El Campo, Texas; brother, Rex Allen Clinkinbeard (Lisa) of Duncan, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Rody Neal of Lueders, Texas; Cole Clinkinbeard (Chanlee) of Avoca, Texas; Cami Clinkinbeard of Avoca, Texas; Hunter Neal of Lueders, Texas; and Caitlyn Clinkinbeard of Avoca, Texas; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Tankersley Funeral Home, 807 Columbia Street, Stamford, Texas.
