Billie Meretta Medford

Billie Medford, 95, of Stamford, TX departed from her earthly life on Monday evening, October 14, 2024, to be reunited with her beloved husband, Raymond.

Billie Meretta (McCown)Medford was born on March 25, 1929, to CG and Lillian (McCown) Raughton and raised on a farm in Paint Creek, TX, as one of three daughters. She graduated from Paint Creek High School and Abilene Cosmetology College.  She was united in marriage to Raymond Medford on February 24, 1951, a union lasting 73 years and blessed with two children, Bret and Lori.

After completing college, Raymond became a pilot in the Air Force joining on July 1, 1953, serving during the Vietnam War.  Billie, Bret and Lori lived in Stamford during 1968 and 1969 while Raymond completed a tour of duty in Vietnam. When Raymond returned to the states, he was stationed in New Jersey at McGuire A.F.B. at which time the Medford Family was reunited. Raymond retired from the military on June 30, 1974, to engage in farming in Haskell County, Texas. Billie was a member of St. John’s Methodist Church.  She will be remembered as a woman who was genuine, kind, pleasant, and could work circles around most people. She served her family and community selflessly and constantly. Billie worked in the community as a beautician at the nursing home and volunteered at Pink Ladies. She is loved very much by her family and friends and will be dearly missed.

Billie was predeceased by her parents, CG and Lillian Raughton, her husband, Raymond Medford on June 9, 2024, two sisters and their husbands Johnie Beth and Tommy Riley and Wanda Mae and Ray Sims.

Billie’s legacy of love, kindness, and service will forever be a part of the lives she touched. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive through her loving family: son and daughter-in-law, Bret and Chris Medford of Stamford, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Lee Owens of Abilene, TX; 5 grandchildren: Brittanie Polk (James)  of Weatherford, TX, Brooke Byrd Liles (Russell) of Abilene, TX, Brandie Byrd Price (Matt) of Abilene, TX, Matt Medford (girlfriend Macy Dancer) of Stamford, TX, Ace Hoadley (Aunjel) of Stamford, TX; 8 great grandchildren; Ky’Unna Andrews, Ky’Teria Andrews, Bristol Polk, Landrie Polk, Palmer Price, Brandy Price, Liam Liles, and Blake Liles; a host of other relatives and friends.

Billie’s family will gather for Visitation on Monday, October 21, 2024, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Tankersley Funeral Home, 807 Columbia St. Stamford, TX. Graveside Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 7457 W. Lake Rd., Abilene, TX with Pastor Paul Wright officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
