Billie Laverne Hargrove

Billie Hargrove, 93, of Stamford, TX was finally reunited with the love of her life on Monday, December 30, 2024. Her beloved husband of 60 years, J.D. Hargrove, died in 2010, and Billie looked forward to being reunited with him and going home to Jesus.

Born Billie Laverne Sanders on April 4, 1931, in Burkburnett, TX. Billie was one of two children born to the late Robert and Elva “Sis” (Winkles) Sanders. Miss Billie Sanders was united in marriage to J. D. Hargrove on July 22, 1950, in Abilene, TX. Billie oftentimes expressed how she cherished the 60 years she and J. D. were married prior to his passing in 2010.

Billie received her formal education from Lueders High School where she graduated 1949. She began her college career at North Texas Teachers College in Denton, TX before transferring to Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, TX to complete her degree in education. Billie’s teaching career took her to five different school systems including:  Byers for two years, Avoca for five years, Ralls for seven years, as well as the Stamford and, McCaulley ISD’s having served 27 years total in education.

Billie was an active member of the Retired Teachers Association, served on the Anson Chamber of Commerce and took great pride in maintain the Koi fishpond on the west side of the library in Anson. One of her most appreciated civic acknowledgements was being named “Woman of the Year” in 2003 in Anson.

Billie could be described as a lady who loved people, had a big personality, she liked to oversee whatever was going on, was a joy to tease, and wanted it noted that she dearly loved her family and being called “Grandmother” by her grandchildren. Family get-togethers for holidays and any occasion delighted her. Billie also appreciated God’s nature and tried to enhance it with beautiful flowers and gardens in her yard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Hargrove, one son, Don Hargrove, her parents, Robert and Elva Sanders and a brother, Bobby Sanders.

Survivors include one daughter, Denise White and husband, David of Stamford; one son, Brent Hargrove and wife, Marie of Anson; six grandchildren, Kristi Logan and husband, Zach of Stamford, TX, Cheryl Overbey and husband, Matt of New Home, TX, Blaine Hargrove of Abilene, TX, Jared Hargrove and wife Ashleigh of Lubbock, TX,  Mallory Holmes of Florida, Heidi Hargrove and Harmony Nilius; five great-grandchildren, Hailey Smith of Utah, Kagen and Braden Logan of Stamford, Alex and Ella Overbey of New Home and a host of additional family and friends.

A visitation will be held on Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Stamford, TX from 1:00 p.m. till service time. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Dan Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Stamford, TX directed by Tankersley Funeral Home.

Billie’s family would like to express a heartfelt “thank you”, to the staff at Country Elegance.  We appreciate your loving care and kindness shown to her these past six years. You became her second family and she dearly loved you!
