Artrella Ann “Tilly” Griggs was called home to our Lord on Thursday, December 23, 2021.
Born June 23, 1935, in Swenson, TX, to Henry and Billie (Tatum) West, Tilly, to all who knew her, was a unique and caring individual who touched the lives of all who knew her.
She married Paul L. Griggs December 9, 1950, and raised three children, Joe, Cynthia, and Teresa. Tilly was preceded in death by her husband, Paul on June 22, 2018.
Tilly was a permanent fixture at the Abilene Christian University where she worked for 25 years as a server in the cafeteria. She loved to walk, walking two miles a day in her early years, and decreasing to a mile a day in later years. Tilly was an avid reader, seamstress, and was a kind and generous lady who baked cakes to give to her neighbors. Tilly was a lifetime resident of the area and a member of the North Fifth & Grape Church of Christ in Abilene, TX.
Tilly was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Billie, her husband of 57 years Paul, 2 brothers, R.D. West, and Dalton West, 1 sister Nada Williamson.
She is survived by her children, Joe Griggs and his wife Cevellia of Merkel, TX, Cynthia Ross of Fort Worth, TX and Teresa Demory and husband Mike; 2 sisters, Patsy Williamson, and Jan Couch both of Abilene, TX; 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Monday, December 27, 2021, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Tankersley Funeral Home (807 Columbia) Stamford, TX. Graveside Services will be held at the Hawley Cemetery on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at 11 a.m. with Charles Ivy officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
