Eugene Carl Swenson, 86, of Stamford, passed away on Saturday, December 04, 2010 at an Abilene hospital. Graveside funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, 2010 at the Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Ericksdahl with Rev. Teresa Davis officiating and under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home of Stamford.
Gene was born August 2, 1924 in Austin, Texas to Willie Gustaf and Katherine Lucille Swenson. He was raised in Stamford, graduating Stamford High School and then attending Texas Technological College and graduating with a degree in animal husbandry. Gene was married to Addie Imogene Haterius Swenson, she preceded him in death on February 28,1978. Gene was active in many organizations at one time or another including being President of the Texas Cowboy Reunion, President of the Stamford Memorial Hospital Board of Directors, President of the Stamford independent school board of directors, was a current honorary vice president of the Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show in Fort Worth, and was an active member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ericksdahl.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Sherry Owens of Oxford, North Carolina and Annie Swenson, 2 grandchildren, Addie Katherine Owens and Christopher Ryan Owens, 1 great grandchild, Oliver Lee Bridges, 3 sisters in law, Vivian Haterius, Marjorie Haterius, and Eunice Brownfield and husband Charles, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two brothers, W. G. Swenson, Jr. and Stanley D. Swenson.
