Josie Clara (Locke) Jones, 86, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2010 in Anson, Texas. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Stamford with Dr. Larry Jones officiating, assisted by Rev. Jacob West and Rev. Calvin Gray. Burial will follow in the Highland Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 until 7:30 p.m.
Josie was born May 7, 1924 in Hill County, Texas to Hildred and Eunice Locke. She moved to Anson at a young age and attended Anson schools. She married N. D. (Doc) Jones on June 4, 1941 under an oak tree by the river at the Lueders Encampment. After living in Anson and the Corinth community, Doc and Josie moved to Stamford in 1951. They were married almost 63 years when Doc passed away in 2004. She was a lifetime homemaker, and bookkeeper for the Doc Jones Implement business in Stamford. Josie loved her family and her church. One of her happiest times was working in the nursery for over 45 years. Her joy was teaching children about Jesus and His love for them.
Josie was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, Aubrey Locke and Bobo Locke, and one great grandson, Ryan Jay Hartman.
Survivors include six sons, Delton Jones and wife Joni of Lake Kiowa, Texas, Ron Jones and wife Trude of Lake Kiowa, Larry Jones and wife Linda of Lubbock, Max Jones and wife Rita of Anson, Steve Jones and wife Christi of Lake Kiowa, and Tim Jones and wife Kim of Dalhart, one aunt, Clara Mae Neighbors of Springtown, three sisters, Ruth Isaacs and husband Robert of Red Bay, Alabama, Dorothy Bailey of Rancho Cordova, California, and Betty Keenum and husband Tommy of Abilene. Her legacy of love includes fourteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and treasured friends.
