Weldon Marion Chase

Weldon Marion Chase was born September 1, 1929 to Claude Leonard and Rose Hill Chase in Rice, Texas, where he also attended school. He moved to Stamford in the early 1940’s. Weldon married Shirley Jean Smith in 1953, in Stamford. He was employed as a stone mason at Lueders until 1963 when the mill closed. Weldon worked for several monument companies moving to Big Spring in 1974. In 1980 he retired and moved back to Stamford. Weldon was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Temple Baptist Church.
Weldon passed away on Friday, October 15, 2010 at the age of 81 years, 1 month and 14 days. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 18, 2010 at the Tankersley Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Jessie Morton officiating. Interment services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday at the Texas Veterans State Cemetery in Abilene with military honors. The family wil be receiving friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 5 until 6 p.m. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Jean Chase of Stamford; two sisters, Sandra Sue Chase of Vernon, and Geneva Dale Chase of Stamford; one brother, Darrell Ray Chase and wife Glenda of Shamrock; and a host of other relatives.
Weldon was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Kenneth, Leon and Thomas Chase; and one sister, Ina Rose Smelser.
