Jimmy Lee Joiner, 78, of Stamford, passed away on Monday, October 11, 2010 in a Haskell nursing home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Stamford with Rev. Jacob West and Dr. T. C. Melton officiating. Burial will follow in the Hamlin East Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 until 7 p.m.
Jimmy was born April 14, 1932 in Tokyo, Texas to Elmer and Viva Dickson Joiner. He moved to Hamlin as a child and became a lifetime resident of the Hamlin-Stamford areas. He graduated Hamlin High School in 1950. He married Oleta Meeks on February 22, 1951 in Hamlin. Jimmy farmed for about 5 years after high school and then started his work in carpentry and worked at several lumber yards before starting his own business as a self employed carpenter. He retired in 1993. Jimmy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stamford.
He is survived by his wife, Oleta Meeks Joiner of Stamford, 1 daughter, Jeannie Joiner of Stamford, 1 son, Ronald Joiner and wife Susan of Abilene, 1 granddaughter Meghan Dollar of College Station, TX, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Buck Joiner, and 1 sister, Inez McCoy.
