Irene Polk

Irene, Polk, 78, of Stamford, passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2010. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Solomon Temple Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Massey officiating. Burial will follow in the Stamford West Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6 until 7 p.m.
Irene was born November 10, 1931 in Stamford to Amos and Atria Lee Hammond Cooper. She was a lifetime resident of the area. She worked at the Stamford Sanitarium for several years as a nurse’s aide and was also a homemaker. She was as member of the Solomon Temple Baptist Church. She married Tom Polk December 21, 1991 in Stamford
Survivors include, 3 sons, Amos Cooper and wife Vanessa Sanders of Stamford, Classie Sims of Stamford, and Otis Cooper and wife Sandra of Lewisville, TX, 2 brothers, Herman Cooper and wife Betty Sue and Odis Cooper and wife Shirley both of Stamford, 2 sisters, Elvira Craig of San Antonio and May Cooper of Abilene, 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 4 brothers, Henry Lee Cooper, Zerlee Cooper, Beauregard Johnson, and Frank Williams, 2 sisters, Winnie Cooper and Gladys Burdon.
