Gladys Hines Martin

Gladys Hines Martin, 96, a long time resident of the Rule-Stamford area, died Wednesday the 28th of April at the Community Care Center in Stamford.
Gladys was born May 31, 1913 in Rule, Texas to Welford and Lena Mae Hines.  She graduated from Rule High School in 1931.  She married Horace Leon Martin, December 23, 1933 in Rule.  She was a homemaker and worked with her husband as a self-employed farmer and stockman. She was a member of the St. John’s United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of UMW, a Worthy Matron in the  Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Garden Club, and a lifetime member of the Texas Cowboy Reunion Old Timer’s Association.
She is survived by one daughter, Margie Hertel Lackey of Sagerton, TX; two sons, George T. Martin and wife Annelle, of Amarillo, TX, and Monty H. Martin of Rule, TX; two sisters, Pauline Couch of Haskell, TX, and Billie Valentine of Austin, TX; 1 sister in law, Earlene Martin of Lawn, TX, two grandsons, Al Martin, and wife Jodie of Lubbock, TX and Mike Hertel and wife Cheryl of Rule, TX; three granddaughters, Karla H. Rimes and husband John of Aspermont,  Vicki Ralph and husband Jack  of New Braunfels, TX, and Patti Messamore  and husband Dan of San Antonio, TX, 14 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grand children.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 35 years, 1 great grandchild, 1 sister and 6 brothers.
Funeral Services were held Friday, April 30, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Stamford with the Revs. John Erwin and Al Martin officiating.  Burial followed in the Highland Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
