Alma Ruth Smith, 79, of Rule, passed away on Thursday, Jan 14, 2010 in Stamford. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Rule with Rev. Russell Stanley officiating. Burial will follow in the Rule Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home of Stamford. The family will be receiving friends at the First Baptist Church in Rule from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. The body will lie in state at the First Baptist Church in Rule from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Alma was born February 23, 1930 in Rule, Texas to W. V. and Hazel Almond. She was a lifetime resident of Rule. She married Donald Kent “Speedy” Smith on January 23, 1949. She was a homemaker, a member of the First Baptist Church and loved china painting with the ladies of Rule.

Alma is survived by 2 daughters, Beverly Speck and husband David of Knox City, Kay Perry and husband Bill of Haskell, 1 son, Kent Smith and wife Sharla of Rule, 6 grandchildren, Shana Marin of Knox City, Matt Perry of Beaumont, Melanie Grindstaff and husband Sam of Rule, McKenna Smith of Rochester, Dwayne Chaney and wife Keri of Abilene, Amanda Johnson and husband Brice of Abilene, and 7 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 59 years, 2 brothers, Wesley Almond and Weldon Almond, and 1 sister, Betty Almond.
