Fern Livengood, 88, of Stamford passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at her home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Stamford with Rev. Jacob West and Rev. Joe Walton officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Cemetery in Haskell, Texas under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home of Stamford. The family will be receiving friends in the church parlor Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Fern was born October 29, 1921 in Mountain Springs, Texas to Tom and Eulala Lowery. She moved to Haskell County with her family in 1928, and was a lifetime resident of the area. She worked on the farm as most all children did and never attended school before Christmas. In 1938 she graduated as valedictorian of her class at Weinert High School. After graduation she worked for the Haskell County Rationing Board where she met her husband to be, Homer Livengood. The couple married November 12, 1944 in Haskell, Texas, and resided in Paint Creek next to Homers parents, Bob and Alice Livengood. Fern was an award winning artist, winning shows all over the Big Country. She was a member of the Paint Creek Baptist Church until Homer’s death in 1983 when she moved to Stamford and joined the First Baptist. She taught Sunday school at Paint Creek and Stamford. She was a member of the Brazos Art Association which she joined in the early 70’s when she began painting. She was a co-owner of the Yours-Mine- and Ours Store in Stamford, a volunteer for Stamford Meals on Wheels, was a member of the Stamford Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and also volunteered at the nursing home. Survivors: two sons, Edwin Livengood and wife Pat of Lubbock and Steve Livengood and wife Siri of Paint Creek; one brother, Victor Lowery and wife Deen of Haskell; four grandsons: Bobby Livengood and wife Kim of San Angelo, Brian Livengood and wife Leslie of Dallas, Justin Livengood and wife Priya of Central Asia and Drew Livengood and wife Shawna of Greenville, TX; one great grandson, Christiaan Livengood and two great granddaughters, Alicia Livengood and Emory Livengood, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters Opal Shanz and Helen Marshall. The family requests that memorials be sent to the First Baptist Church - % project 110 – P. O.
