Juanita Jewell Greene, 75, of Stamford, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Erwin officiating. Burial will follow in the Henson Cemetery in Red Springs, Texas. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 until 4 p.m.
Juanita was born June 25, 1934 in Seymour, Texas to Joseph William and Jewell Victoria Henson Cheek. The family moved to Stamford when she was a child. She graduated Stamford High School, and was a member of the St. John’s United Methodist Church. Juanita was an animal lover. She took in all kinds of animals and took care of them at her own expense.
She is survived by 2 sons, James Lester Smith and wife Ivy, of Stamford, Bobby Gerald Boutwell and wife Shelley of Arthur City, Texas, 1 sister, Billie Jo Vaughn of, 1 brother, Gerald Cheek of Haskell, 8 grandchildren, Christopher Shawn Boutwell and wife Stephanie, Randi Boutwell, Melyssa Garrett, Toby Mansell, Troy Mansell, Francine Marshall, Serena Smith, and Alana Smith, and several great grand children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 husbands, James Lester Smith, Bobby L. Boutwell, and Richard L. Greene, 1 daughter, Nora Jewell Smith, 2 brothers, Burl Lee Cheek and William Henry Cheek, 2 sisters, Winnie Grace McCown, and Vernia Mae Anders.
