Louis Albert Spitzer

Louis Albert Spitzer, 100, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle, passed away on October 17, 2009.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Faith Lutheran Church in Sagerton with Rev. Keith Palmquist officiating. Burial will follow at the Old Glory Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home in Stamford. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2009.

Born on August 20, 1909 to Fredrich Wilhelm and Lillie (Wendeborn) Spitzer in Sagerton, Texas, Louis lived in Old Glory after he and Adeline married on July 30, 1931 until September 13, 2005 when they moved to Fort Worth to live with Norma and Dale.

When he was very young, Louis began helping his parents raise the younger children and helped his father with all the farming chores. He later became a mechanic and tractor salesman for J.B. Candle, who had a business in Sagerton. He demonstrated the first rubber tractor tires in the area. Louis and Adeline began farming and ranching in 1935. He never retired completely until his health began to decline.

Louis was also active in the community, serving as Old Glory ISD Trustee and Board President. He was a member of the Stonewall County Hospital Board, a Director for the REA, and a member and officer of the Herman Sons Lodge of Old Glory. He was also instrumental in establishing and organizing the Farm Bureau in Stonewall and surrounding counties. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Sagerton. Louis loved hunting, fishing, his family and his home in Old Glory, Texas.

Survivors: Daughter, Norma Jean Talley and her husband, Dale; grandsons, Larry Lehrmann and his wife, Kathy, and Greg Lehrmann and his wife, Debbie; granddaughters, Sherry Scott and her husband, Randy, and Sharon Clayton and her friend, Lynn Hartung; Dale’s children, Brian and Lori; great grandchildren, Sarah Bromiel and her husband, Ben, and Lisa Lehrmann, Gregory and Jonathan Lehrmann, Amanda Scott and Ryan Scott and his wife, Heather; great great grandchildren, Mia Adeline, Savanah and Jonah; brother, Garrett Spitzer and his wife, Martha, and sister, Vergie McGee; and a large extended family.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Adeline, his parents, his brothers, Herbert, Bobby and Johnny, and his sisters, Lena Rueffer, Helen Laughlin, and Mayme Glenn, two nieces, Gay Nell Helwig and Vickie Spitzer, and numerous friends and relatives.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Melvin Laughlin, Gregory Lehrmann, Jonathan Lehrmann, Steve Lehrmann, Gary Spitzer, Kenny Spitzer, Todd Spitzer, and Weldon Spitzer.

Memorials may be made to Friends of Old Glory School, Faith Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
