Marie Evelyn Hall Hansen, 85, of San Angelo, died Thursday, October 15, 2009 at the Regency House Nursing Home in San Angelo. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 18, 2009 at the Orient Street Church of Christ 510 South Orient Street in Stamford, TX with Stan Harvey and Wes Horn officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Lutheran Cemetery in Ericksdahl with Tankersley Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be at Tankersley Funeral Home 807 South Columbia in Stamford on Saturday, October 17 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Evelyn was born on October 5, 1924 in Howe, TX to Henry and Lenner Hall. She graduated from Stamford High School in 1942 and married Weldon Hansen on April 15, 1945 in Lueders, TX. She was a faithful Christian wife and mother, a former member of the Lueders Church of Christ, Hillcrest Church of Christ in Abilene, Orient Street Church of Christ in Stamford and most recently the 9 th and Main Street Church of Christ in San Angelo.
Evelyn worked as a homemaker and as a bookkeeper for many years. Her employers included Southwestern Bell, the Lueders Refinery, Wofford Motors in Stamford, Gay Travel Service in Abilene, and Sears and Roebuck in Abilene. After retiring and moving back to Stamford in 1985, Evelyn worked part time at the VIP Community Center where she later continued as a volunteer until she moved to San Angelo following Weldon’s death in 2003.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Weldon, her father Henry Hall and mother Lenner Hall, one sister Nita Mayes, and two brothers, James Hall, and Billy Joe Hall. She is survived by three daughters and sons in law: Rhonda and Stan Harvey of Keller, Brenda and Russell Williams of San Angelo, Sherry and Mike Gilly of Abilene, two brothers Nathan Hall of Irving and Jerry Hall of Milano, one sister, Linda Voyles of Plano. She was “Nanny” to seven beloved grandchildren and their spouses: Traci Young, Clay Harvey, Justin and Summer Harvey, Darren and Lauren Highsmith, Gina Harvey Smith, David and Autumn Gilly, and Jason Gilly. She had two foster grandchildren, ten great grand children, and two great, great grand children.
Special thanks to the nurses and staff who lovingly cared for Evelyn at Regency House in San Angelo for the past two years and to the Lighthouse Hospice staff who helped her and her family through her final days.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Stamford VIP Community Center, 508 E. Gould Street in Stamford, TX.
