Josh Adam Murphree

Josh Adam Murphree, 37, died Sunday, April 2, in his hometown of Stamford. Burial will be in Cottonwood Flat Cemetery at Rough Creek at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 8. Services will follow at 2 p.m., at First Baptist Church in Stamford with Dr. Jacob West and Dr. Wes Horn officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home of Stamford.

Visitation will be Friday, April 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, 807 Columbia, Stamford, Texas.

Josh, the much-loved son of Randy and Betty (Middleton) Murphree, was born May 29, 1979, in Stamford, Texas. In 1997, he graduated from Stamford High School where he played football, ran track, and was active in FFA. A 2001 graduate of Tarleton University, he was a loyal Red Raider fan, as well as a dyed-in-blue Stamford Bulldog.

A former member of the Lions Club and Rotary Club, Josh also served as president of the Stamford Hospital Board. He was a CIC, FIS, and ran Stamford Insurance Agency alongside his dad.

A true friend, Josh was a joy to be around, never met a stranger, and always willing to lend a helping hand. Kind hearted, generous, loving, fun, and very competitive, he hated to lose. His heart was as big as he was. He loved hunting and fishing, and the annual 4th of July fireworks were the highlight of his year.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Snyder Glenn and Madilene Murphree; and maternal grandparents, Rudolph Middleton and Joyce Chilton.

He is survived by his parents; son, Jaxton; the mother of his son, Carri Murphree; a host of aunts, uncles and cousins; and a multitude of friends.

Pallbearers will be Dale Caddell, Landon Denson, Rex Detamore, Nathan Dickson, Kevin McCright, all of Stamford, and Jeremy Mueller of Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the SBMP family.

Memorials may be sent to the donor's favorite charity.
