Doris Mae Cowan

Doris Mae Cowan, 88, of Honey Grove, Texas and formerly of Stamford, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2009 in Bonham, Texas. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Stamford with burial following in the Bethel Cemetery at Funston under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 until 7 p.m.

Doris was born December 20, 1920 in Red Springs, Texas to Filix T. and Iva Francis Lea. Doris graduated from the nursing school in Stamford and managed the Stamford Clinic for many years. She was a former member of the Licensed Vocational Nurses Association of Texas and the First Baptist Church. She married Olin Cowan on April 5, 1941 in Stamford. He preceded her in death in 1984.

She is survived by 1 daughter, Gail Moore and husband Mike of Honey Grove, Texas, 1 sister, Opal Smith and husband Ross of Georgetown, TX and 1 brother, Cecil F. Lea of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and 4 grand daughters.
