Gene Petty

Gene Petty, age 93 of Stamford, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2016. She was born October 31, 1923, and was the second oldest of 12 siblings born to the late Earnest Greely Young and Mary Jane Freeman Young.
Gene attended school at North Zulch, TX. She married Johnnie Thomas Petty on September 9, 1940 in Lott, TX. Gene and Johnnie were married for 55 years prior to his death on April 26, 1996. Gene was a longtime resident of Stamford where she worked at the cleaners as a seamstress. Gene was known for the Petty Flea Market, where many folks shopped for their special treasures.
Gene was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Johnnie William Petty, passed away in 1961; five sisters: Louise Folsom, Doyl Watkins, Neta Radford, Frankie Doughty and Jimmie Beardin; three brothers: Bill Young, Horace Young and Kenny Young.
She is survived by two sisters: Eleanor Taylor of Stamford and Clara Jane Holden of Arlington; one brother, John Charles Young of Willis Point and a host of other relatives and friends.
The visitation is from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Tankersley Funeral Home (807 S. Columbia) Stamford. Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Highland Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Jesse Morton officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
