Gilbert Manuel Petty, 80, entered the gates of heaven on Friday, August 19, 2016 in Lubbock, Texas. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Rule, Texas with Rev. Scott Hensley officiating. Burial will follow at the Rule Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home of Stamford. The family will be receiving friends at Tankersley Funeral Home (807 S. Columbia, Stamford, Texas) Sunday, August 21, from 6 until 7 p.m.
Gilbert was born August 26, 1935 in Lueders, Texas to Van and Nellie Petty. He was raised in Lueders and attended school there. He married Elizabeth Ann Watts on September 24, 1960 in the bride’s parent’s home in the Corinth Community, Jones County, Texas. The newlyweds established their home in Lueders, prior to moving to Anson for a few years. In 1964, The Petty’s established permanent roots in Rule, Texas where they currently reside. Gilbert was employed by the Walsh and Watts Oil Co. as a pumper for 38 years. He later worked as a contract pumper for 12 years before retiring in 2010. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rule and a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth Ann Petty of Rule, 2 sons, Rock Petty and wife Shereen of Tom Ball, Texas and Rod Petty and wife Julie of Rule, TX, 4 grandchildren, Benjamin Petty of Lubbock, Joseph Petty and wife Savannah of Yukon, Oklahoma, Zeb Petty of Childress, TX and Allison Petty of Abilene, TX, 2 sisters in law, Carole Ann Petty of Stamford, and Donna Petty of Marble Falls, TX, and numerous other relatives.
Preceding Gilbert in death were his parents, 2 brothers, Harell Petty and Foy Gene Petty.
