Elbert Oran Brigham, Sr. was born April 16, 1919, on the Reid Farm west of New Hope, Texas. Oran was the first of seven children born to William Edgar Brigham and Milda Ann Viertel Brigham.
He attended Tuxedo School beginning in 1925 and graduated from Stamford High School in 1937.
Oran married Evelyn Marie Hargrove on May 30, 1939, in Stamford, Texas. He was drafted into the Army in 1944 and was a veteran of World War II.
Oran, a sixth generation farmer, whose farming heritage dates back to 1782 in Tennessee continued farming late into his 80’s at which time he retired and maintained his supervisory position. Over the last 35 years Oran has restored almost every early model of John Deere tractor.
Oran was a Baptist and an active member of the Fairview Cemetery Association, and a past President of the Tuxedo Homecoming Committee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 58 years. Oran is survived by two sons; Oran Jr. and wife Vangee Brigham of Kerrville, TX, and Randy and wife Sandy Brigham of Tuxedo, TX, three grandchildren; Cami and husband Ronnie Low of Downingtown, PA, Miranda and husband Chris Lazirko of Abilene, TX, and Will and wife Morgan Brigham of Stamford, TX, two great grandchildren; Katie and Madison Lazirko of Abilene, TX, He is also survived by all six of his brothers and sisters; William Brigham of Farwell, TX, Mildred Salmon of Orinda, CA, Elton Brigham of Lampasas, TX, Lela Mae McClung of Lubbock, TX, James Brigham of Hamlin, TX and Louella Olson of Arlington, TX.
A time of visitation with the family will be Wednesday, July 6, 2016 from 6 – 7 p.m. at Tankersley Funeral Home (807 S. Columbia St.). Oran will be remembered during Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2016 at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jesse Morton officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Tuxedo under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
